Spread: -11.5 FSU
Reasons FSU will win: Georgia Tech had the 128th ranked run defense in the country last year, and FSU will be able to exploit that heavily. They have a veteran QB in DJU and have a stacked receiving core. Florida State also has something to prove as they were left out of the playoffs last year and likely want to come into the new season red hot. Haynes King is also prone to mistakes and throwing interceptions, which may come into play. Florida state has one of the top defensive lines coming into the season as told by NFL draft analysts
Reasons Georgia Tech will win: Georgia Tech returns almost all of last season's offensive production, with key players including RB Jamal Haynes, who rushed for over 1000 yards last season. Florida State on the other hand, lost many great offensive players to the draft such as WR Keon Coleman and QB Jordan Travis, and may have trouble creating offense. While Haynes King tended to throw interceptions last year, he also 37 touchdowns to more than make up for it. If he has a good day, FSU could be in trouble.
My Prediction: Florida State will win 27-17. FSU’s excellent D-line will be able to suppress the rushing game, but with a lot of new faces on the offensive side of the ball for FSU, Georgia Tech will make it a close game. It should be an exciting game to kick off the college football season.
